It will in particular focus on the wide use of the Internet in every area of knowledge and issues related to this use and the presence of languages in cyberspace. This Symposium aims at examining themes related to (1) the demand for human resources training; (2) the development of methodologies which enable the inclusion of languages in the digital world; (3) the use of technologies for promoting multilingualism; (4) natural language processing; (5) the improvement of linguistic census on the web; (6) the documentation consisting of multimedia resources (text, sound, image). The Symposium will foster dialogue of international language initiatives in the cyberspace, based on the support of several national and international partners (such as OIF, OAS, OEI, CPLP, ACALAN, AUF, NGOs, etc.), associated with programs and projects linked to linguistic diversity. Consequently, this event will be opened to several civil society representatives, as well as to representatives of UN institutions who took part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Thematic groups of the Symposium will be organized in complementarity with ongoing initiatives such as: The Plan of Action (Line C8) of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), under the auspices of UNESCO. This line of action is particularly focused on the presence of languages in cyberspace and progress to date; The working groups of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which organized several dynamic coalitions in this area. It is worth noting that one of these coalitions, placed under the coordination of Maaya, is focused on linguistic diversity. The first meeting of this Group took place in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, followed by Hyderabad (India, 2008), Sharm-el-Sheikh (Egypt, 2009) and Vilnius (Lithuania, 2010). The Bamako International Forum on Multilingualism (Bamako, Mali, 19-21 January2009) which had the mission to promote a debate on the balanced development of local, national and international languages.
