Participants400 medical doctors, nurses, representatives of social services and of several governments. Project detailsHIV/AIDS is the most deadly epidemic in human history. It is presently the biggest threat to people of sexually active and reproductive age. Over 33 million people were living with HIV in 1999 with more than 90% in developing countries. While it is clearly recognized that the HIV/AIDS epidemic will have a major impact on people, social structures and economic growth in many developing countries, resources are not allocated in proportion with the projected effects of the epidemic. There is increasing awareness that the economic impact of the HIV epidemic on developing countries threatens seriously the growth of these countries and only multipartite efforts will make it possible to implement adequate solutions. The aim of the Conference was to address these issues and search for solutions to the current problems. External linksVolunteering Opportunities16 volunteers participated in this project. ICVolunteers was in charge of some of the logistical aspects, including hotel reservations and the organization of excursions before, during and after the Conference.The volunteers took care of the reception of the 400 delegates and worked as reporters, summarizing sessions.
