Pink night30 October 2012 For a seventh season in a row, the Genève-Servette Hockey Club Foundation for Childhood and Humanitarian Action joined the Breast Cancer Network in the fight against breast cancer and its consequences on women and their families. The now traditional PINK NIGHT took place on Friday, 5 October 2012, during the ice hockey match against HC Bienne. ICVolunteers did its part by contributing to the success of this initiative. All the ingredients were to make this evening a success for such a noble cause. On this mild autumn evening, the atmosphere in the skating arena was electric: more than 7000 spectators were present for the occasion. In the pink shaded stands, the fans were joyfully expressing their support to the cause, while the Geneva “Eagles” came onto the ice wearing a special pink jersey to show the GSHC players’ engagement in the fight against breast cancer. Outside the arena, in front of the main entrance, a pink tent was installed where the Breast Cancer Network volunteers were helping to sell solidarity T-shirts, as a support to the women diagnosed with this affection and to their families. In the hall and VIP section, an information booth was set up to present the Breast Cancer Network, the partner organizations and their actions. And finally, ICV volunteers, accompanied by the young “Junior Elite” players, were walking around the arena with raffle tickets, appealing to the public’s generosity. The little juniors got quickly caught up to the game, even though their true hockey passion was sometimes difficult to overcome, especially when their idols would show off on the ice. On the sports side, to fully contribute to the success of this evening, the locals GSHC won 4-1 against HC Bienne, thus marking their 8th victory in a row in just as many matches. In the booths, not less then CHF 2500 had been collected by our volunteers in favor of the Breast Cancer Network. To top the pink shaded event, the raffle draw brought some happy smiles among the spectators. The winning lots consisted of pink hockey sticks signed by the GSHC players, hockey jerseys and three tokens for skydiving, offered by Anne Knabe, Skydiving World Co-Champion. The jerseys worn by the “Eagles” during this match are being auctioned until 31st October 2012 at 23h59’59”, which is until the end of the international month dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. For this special event, the public was also invited to let their imagination speak, so a prize has been awarded to the most original pink outfit: two little girls all dressed up in pink won the contest. The entire profit collected by Genève-Servette Hockey Club during this evening will help financing the projects and actions of the Breast Cancer Network, thus helping to reduce the impact of this mainly feminine affection. The public of Geneva was once again there to express its support to this noble cause. Posted: 2012-10-30 Updated: 2012-11-14 |
